Sign at Fish Cleaning Station at Fort Niagara State Park. This is the FIRST
cleaning Station was built with Niagara River Anglers funds and volunteers. I is
the FIRST fish cleaning station built anywhere in the State Parks system. Today
there is a state-of-the art cleaning facility on this site, complete with
carcass grinder, water, electric and restrooms. We need a picture of the new
station to show off, if you have a good one, send it please.
On
the left our portable fishing pond is being set up by member volunteers at the
Niagara County Fair. In the center is a sign directing fairgoers to the pond
tent. Children of all ages get a chance to catch a fish and most of them for the
first time and the picture on the right is an example!
SALMON
PEN-REARING
Our "Baby" salmon in bucket being tenderly examined by a volunteer.
Other pictures showing salmon rearing pens being moved. Notice the
volunteers it takes to do this. The pens in the picture on the right are in the
water at the dock in Youngstown NY. The pens are held afloat by plastic
pipe collars with the ends sealed to hold air. You can see them in the pictures.
Salmon are held in these pens long enough to imprint them to the waters of the
Niagara River, assuring returning fish for spawning time.
