NEW! Member Earl Maloney took John Ranney's son-in-law Mike Kroll and grandkids Joe and Melody fishing in the lower river, out of Lewiston, on Sunday morning in October. First drift on the Queenston back drift was like magic. Joe caught his first king salmon, a nice 13lb. hen. Took them for a ride up in the hole, then came back down and did the Artpark and Stella Drifts. It was a great morning and I think John was looking down over us. Joe was wearing grandpas jacket.

Occasionally an incidental catch is made of the pre-historic Lake Sturgeon shown below. Back in the thirties and forties [and even much earlier] these creatures were abundant and a much sought after fish. Today, they are on the endangered species list and if you see one or catch one, immediately contact the
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Amherst NY.

If you catch a tagged fish, write down the tag number, length of the fish, date and location of capture, and send this information to the address on the tag. You will be sent information about the DEC tagging program and the individual fish reported. Don't remove tags from fish you release. And contact DEC Region 9 office

270 Michigan Avenue
Buffalo, N.Y. 14203-2999
(716) 851-7200
Hours: 8:30 to 4:45, Monday through Friday

These fish MUST be released immediately.
Look at it, take a quick Picture and get it back to the water!

The Sturgeon in this picture is just a baby but is about 20 years old.
They  reportedly  grow to the 150 pound range and exceed 6 feet in length.
Oh, life span? OVER 125 years!
Notice the snout and shape of the tail. The barbels on the lower snout looks like whiskers. If any one knows who this fisherman is, let us know so we can give him a name! According to the Background in the pic, this was taken at the Robert Moses Power Plant in the Lower River.
